Children who face discouragement and frustration in their
daily lessons don't want to continue in those lessons. And who
can blame them?
How discouraging it is for a child to look at their
handwriting lesson and see a paper full of smears and tears
where they have tried to correct themselves. How frustrating
it is for the child to spend so much time erasing and
correcting and still be able to see a shadow of all their
mistakes on the paper.
When I started teaching Marck handwriting, we got off on
the right foot by using the
Story Board instead of
paper. Teaching handwriting is a joy for both Marck and myself!
No messy, torn papers. Any mistakes are quickly erased and
easily corrected. Each day, Marck starts the lesson by writing
his name on the board along with any letters he has learned up
to that point. Then we continue with the day's new lesson.
Using the Story Board
(including other boards we use for subjects such as
math and
geography)
has eliminated the biggest source of discouragement and
frustration in the daily lessons. We can now proceed with
the business of real learning.
